Full Bungalow Renovation, Extension & Smart Home – Margate, Kent

This project on Alicia Avenue in Margate involved the complete transformation of an existing bungalow into a modern, open-plan family home, combining major structural alterations with a side extension, full electrical and plumbing upgrades, smart-home technology, extensive landscaping and a completely redesigned exterior. With a project value of approximately £200,000 and a 40-week programme, Monarch Builders managed the works from the major structural alterations through to the final finishes, technology and landscaping. Major Structural Alterations & Open-Plan Living One of the biggest elements of this project was completely changing the internal layout of the bungalow. Most of the original internal walls were removed to create a much larger, brighter and more open-plan living environment. Extensive structural work was carried out to safely open up the property and create the new layout, dramatically changing the way the house looked and functioned. The rear of the property was also opened up to accommodate an impressive 5-metre-wide set of black aluminium bifold doors, creating a huge connection between the internal living space and the newly landscaped garden. New Side Extension A new side extension was constructed to provide additional living space and improve the overall layout of the bungalow. The extension was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing property while allowing the internal spaces to be completely reconfigured around the customer’s requirements. Complete Electrical & Plumbing Installation As part of the renovation, the property received completely new electrical and plumbing installations. The electrical system was designed not only around everyday use but also around the substantial smart-home and entertainment specification incorporated throughout the bungalow. Whole-House Sound & Smart Technology A major feature of this renovation was the technology installed throughout the property. An integrated sound system allows music and audio to be enjoyed throughout the home, while smart lighting provides convenient control and helps create different lighting environments. Security was also a major consideration, with a complete CCTV and alarm system installed alongside an intercom doorbell and dedicated internal intercom screen. Together, these systems created a modern, connected home designed around convenience, entertainment and security. New Windows & 5-Metre Aluminium Bifold Doors The property received new double-glazed windows throughout, improving both the appearance and performance of the bungalow. At the rear, a substantial section of the existing building was removed and structurally altered to accommodate approximately 5 metres of black aluminium bifold doors. When opened, the bifolds create a wide transition from the main living area directly onto the porcelain patio and landscaped garden. Garage Conversion The existing brick-built garage was completely converted to make much better use of the available space. Rather than remaining as vehicle storage, the building was transformed into two practical areas: • New utility room • Dedicated home office The conversion provided valuable additional usable space while remaining separate from the main living areas of the property. Bespoke Garden Bar & Storage Building A brand-new garden bar building was constructed as part of the external transformation. The building provides a dedicated entertainment space while incorporating additional internal side storage, allowing the structure to remain both practical and visually attractive. Combined with the new patio, artificial grass and landscaping, it creates a garden designed for entertaining throughout the year. Complete Driveway & Garden Transformation Both the front and rear external areas underwent a substantial makeover. Approximately 60m² of block paving was installed to create the new driveway and external areas. To the rear, approximately 150m² of porcelain paving was installed to create a large contemporary patio and entertaining space. Herringbone Karndean Flooring More than 100m² of herringbone Karndean flooring was installed throughout the main areas of the property. The herringbone pattern helps visually connect the new open-plan spaces while providing a high-quality, durable finish suited to a busy modern home. New Bathroom & Walk-In Shower The bathroom was completely renovated as part of the project. A large full-wall walk-in shower was created, helping give the bathroom a clean, contemporary finish while maximising the available space. The bathroom design formed part of the wider modern aesthetic used throughout the property.
